Google Guaranteed Is Now Google Verified: A Florida Guide

You've seen the badge on Local Services Ads — but "Google Guaranteed" quietly changed in late 2025. New name, new color, and no more money-back guarantee. Here's what it means for your business now.

Google Guaranteed Is Now Google Verified: A Florida Guide

If you run a home-service business anywhere in Florida, you've seen the badge — the little checkmark next to the first results when someone searches "AC repair near me" or "emergency plumber." For years that was the green Google Guaranteed badge, and contractors asked me about it constantly: how do I get it, what's the money-back guarantee, is it worth the spend. Here's what most owners haven't caught yet — Google Guaranteed changed in late 2025. Different name, different color, and the guarantee that gave it its name is gone.

I run Local Services Ads for contractors across Sarasota and Southwest Florida, so if you're still budgeting around the old rules, let me save you the confusion. This is what actually changed, what the badge means now, and whether it's still worth chasing.

What Google Guaranteed used to be

The green Google Guaranteed badge sat at the very top of search, on Local Services Ads — the pay-per-lead ads that run above the map pack and the regular results. The badge told a homeowner two things: Google had verified the business's license and insurance and run background checks on it, and the work came with a money-back guarantee. If a customer booked you through the ad and wasn't satisfied, Google could reimburse them for the job, up to a lifetime cap it set.

That guarantee was the headline feature. In trades where a homeowner is letting a stranger into the house for a five-figure job, a checkmark that says "Google stands behind this" is a real trust lever — the same reason reviews carry so much weight in home services.

What changed in late 2025

On October 20, 2025, Google folded its three Local Services badges — Google Guaranteed, Google Screened, and License Verified by Google — into a single badge called Google Verified. The green checkmark turned blue. One badge now covers every verified business instead of three.

The bigger change is quieter: the money-back guarantee tied to the old Google Guarantee badge was discontinued. Customers could only file reimbursement requests for jobs booked before December 7, 2025. After that date, the consumer guarantee simply stopped existing.

For contractors, the practical takeaway is simple. The badge is now a verification signal, not an insurance policy. It tells a homeowner that Google checked your license, insurance, and background — it no longer promises them their money back if something goes wrong.

If you already held a green Guaranteed or Screened badge, the switch was automatic — you kept your verified status and didn't have to lift a finger. You can confirm the details on Google's own Local Services Help pages.

Google Verified vs. the old Google Guaranteed

What's different now:

  • One badge, not three. Google Verified replaced Google Guaranteed, Google Screened, and License Verified by Google.
  • Blue, not green. If your marketing still shows a green badge screenshot, it's out of date.
  • No consumer money-back guarantee. The reimbursement program that gave "Google Guaranteed" its name is gone.

What stayed the same: you still earn the badge by advertising through Local Services Ads, and you still have to pass Google's screening — background checks, license verification, and proof of insurance. That part didn't get easier or harder. It just kept going under a new name.

Does losing the guarantee actually hurt you?

Honestly, for most contractors, less than the headline suggests. In 20+ years of watching how homeowners choose a local business, I've almost never seen one pick a company because of the fine print on a reimbursement cap. They didn't read it. What moved them was the badge itself — the signal that Google had vetted this business — sitting at the top of the page next to a strong review count and a fair price.

That signal is still there. The blue Verified badge does the same job the green one did for the part that mattered: it separates you from the unverified names below it. And the trust stack that actually closes home-service jobs hasn't changed at all — a complete Google Business Profile, a steady flow of recent reviews, and a site built to convert the visitor into a phone call.

How to get the Google Verified badge in 2026

The path is the same one that used to earn the green badge:

  1. Sign up for Local Services Ads in an eligible category and service area. Most Florida trades are covered — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pest control, garage door, landscaping, house cleaning, and plenty more.
  2. Pass the screening. Google runs background checks on the business, and often the owner, verifies your professional license, and confirms your insurance. The exact requirements vary by category and location, so have your documents current and accurate before you apply.
  3. Set your service areas and budget. You pay per lead — a call or message from a real prospect — not per click, which is what makes the channel work for a lot of trades.

It isn't instant — plan for verification to take some time, and know that the fastest way to stall it is a mismatch between your license, your insurance, and your registered business name. I walk through the whole setup in my full guide to Local Services Ads for Florida contractors.

Is it still worth it for a Florida contractor?

For a lot of trades, yes — with your eyes open. Local Services Ads put you above everything else on the page, you pay for leads instead of clicks, and the Verified badge still builds trust in categories where homeowners are nervous about who they let in the door. The businesses that answer the phone fast and have real, recent reviews are the ones that tend to squeeze the most out of it.

But it's not a shortcut past the fundamentals, and it's not the only way to show up on Google. If you're weighing paid leads against building organic ranking that lowers your cost per job over time, that's a genuine decision worth thinking through rather than defaulting into.

And the map pack sitting right below the ads is free. A contractor who works to win local search and runs Local Services Ads is covering the two spots most homeowners actually tap.

What to do this week

  1. If you had the green badge, confirm it transitioned to the blue Google Verified badge. It should have happened automatically, but log into your Local Services account and check.
  2. Scrub your marketing. Any website copy, truck lettering, or ad that still promises a Google money-back guarantee is now inaccurate — fix it.
  3. Keep your license and insurance current so your verified status never lapses.
  4. Don't lean on the badge alone. Pair it with the profile, reviews, and fast follow-up that actually book the job.

Google Guaranteed becoming Google Verified is a smaller change than the name makes it sound — the badge still works; the guarantee just went away. What hasn't changed is that the contractors pulling ahead in Florida are the ones doing the fundamentals while everyone else argues about badges.
